To defend against Sybil and DDoS assaults, EigenLayer has implemented an allowlist security feature for its EigenDA data-availability service on the Ethereum mainnet. As a security precaution, ECDSA authentication on an Ethereum or IP address can be used.

EigenLayer has decided to deploy a whitelist to thwart Sybil and DDoS assaults on EigenDA, its free data availability service, to mitigate any potential security threats. This technique uses an Ethereum or IP address ECDSA authentication to validate the user.

With a throughput of up to 768KB in each 10-minute window, the current free tier is far more capable than what is needed for the busiest Ethereum rollups. For instance, the widely used rollup Base uses less than two blobs every ten minutes; therefore, EigenDA’s free tier is more than sufficient for the present needs.

EigenDA also enables partners to request throughput beyond the free tier. To meet their data demands, interested parties can collaborate closely with EigenDA through the platform’s partner registration page. Because of this versatility, a wide range of applications and innovations, including high-throughput use cases, can be supported.

EigenDA has been tested on the main net at peak throughputs of up to 10 MB/sec and generates synthetic loads of 0.6 MB/sec. Due to its enormous capacity, EigenDA is scalable, which satisfies Ethereum’s requirements for data availability.

Current Events and the EIGEN Stake Drop

In addition, EigenLayer is developing permissionless payments for blob throughput on EigenDA, with an anticipated delivery date of the end of this year. This functionality allows users to reserve bandwidth for high throughput demands at a fixed fee.

Furthermore, a significant milestone in the project’s token distribution plan, the Eigen Foundation, has begun the second phase of the EIGEN stake drop. In the first phase, some 113 million EIGEN tokens were released to guarantee the project’s ongoing development and enhance its AVS.

Tokens are non-transferable once claimed and will remain so until the end of Q3 2024. However, through the EigenLayer online site, users can engage in staking and delegation to EigenDA operators. EigenDA is the only AVS using an EIGEN quorum, but other AVSs will probably adopt this system shortly.

The Security Contributions of EigenLayer

After becoming life on the Ethereum main net in April 2024, EigenLayer has already received over $12 billion in deposits. By leveraging a more extensive trust network, the platform makes new PoS projects possible. It eliminates the need for additional security solutions.

The AVSs supporting the consensus, oracle, and data availability layers are just a few of the application domains that EigenLayer supports.

Because EigenDA is readily available and EigenLayer’s pooled security feature is adopted, EigenDA fits nicely as a significant player in Ethereum’s scaling solutions. EigenDA intends to promote permissionless innovation within the Ethereum ecosystem when new advancements and functionalities are available.
